To the Wayne High School Jr. Reserve Officer Training Corps. home page. We are known as the "Pioneer Battalion." We are a newer organization; Founded July 2006 - 2007 school year. Since the beginning of the program First Sergeant (R) Johnny Abbott has been teaching as the SAI ( Senior Army Instructor.) Who was later accompanied by Staff Sergeant (R) James Taylor, our AI (Army Instructor) in the school year of July 2007 - 2008.
The Pioneer Battalion has a major community service effort. The annual events include things such as:
~ Adopt-A-Highway ~ Winterization of Rural Appalachian Program ~ Wayne County Veterans' Ceremony ~ Relay for Life Program ~ Wayne High School Enhancement and Beatification Program ~ Wayne Middle School Support/Beatification ~ Beech Fork Federal Park Clean-up and Restoration ~ Wayne County Fall Festival Parade ~ Huntington Veteran's Day Parade ~ Huntington Christmas Parade ~ Numerous Wayne High School Support for Athletic Clubs (Football, Basketball, Softball, Senior Night, and Graduation Ceremony)
Our instructors take great pride in motivating young people to become better citizens; causing a major impact not only within the cadet corps, but the entire high school and community as well. JROTC brings more to school than your normal math or science class: this class teaches cadets the value of respect, honor, discipline, and essential leadership skills that can help further their career as a cadet and improve their life as an everyday citizen.
